Search and Rescue

Search and Rescue

People around the world are being rescued from perils all the time; whether it’s natural disasters or acts of terrorism. When people are lost or in danger, their friends and loved ones want someone to go out and look for them. Obviously, it’s better to have someone who is trained in search and rescue to look for your lost loved one rather than you going out and becoming lost yourself and creating even more problems. It’s better if you have a trained search and rescue team searching for lost people.

Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). We are called to be Christ-like. So, are you following in the Master’s footsteps? Do you seek and save the lost? Don’t get me wrong, we can’t save anyone’s soul. But our almighty God has chosen to work through humble Christians to further His kingdom. Amazingly, He doesn’t force us to do so. We have to humbly be willing to be used by Him.

Do you share your faith with others? If not, why not? Whether you are a new Christian or have been one for 70 years, we can all tell our testimony. When you are telling others how you came to faith in Jesus, it’s good to keep it to 3 to 5 minutes. Write out a basic outline and then practice on a family member or friend.

You don’t need to get into all the nitty-gritty details of your past. Don’t glamorize your past life of sin. You can say that you’ve done some things that you aren’t proud of. I typically say that I chased women, drank too much alcohol and that I was verbally abusive to my wife and kids. There’s no need for me to go into any more detail than that.

The most important part of your testimony is to include the Gospel presentation. God has granted you eternal salvation. There’s nothing more important than telling others how they can receive eternal life too. Be sure to point out that we are all sinners and that there is nothing we can do on our own to get back in a right relationship with God (Romans 3:23). It is only through Jesus Christ that we can be saved (John 14:6). Jesus said that people need to “repent and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15).

In addition to sharing your testimony, you should also be trained how to Biblically share your faith with others. Personally, I think Ray Comfort with The Way of the Master does a great job of training people on how to effectively share their faith with others. I highly recommend that you listen to Ray Comfort’s Hell’s Best Kept Secret and True and False Conversions. You can also attend the School of Biblical Evangelism on-line. Other effective training programs are Alpha by Nicky Gumbel and Christianity Explored by Rico Tice.

We are called by our Lord and Savior to “go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Don’t let the fear of man hold you back. Fear God instead of man and boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord (Acts 4:29). May God give you His strength, His courage and His boldness! Say “Here I am Lord, send me to search for the lost and rescue the perishing; to help further Your kingdom, all for Your honor and glory – our gracious heavenly Father.” Amen.
